The whole of the capital was covered in red as the supporters gathered all over the island to get a glimpse of their team and the South Asian Football Federation Cup 2008. Maldives won the final against India by a last minute goal, which has brought unimaginable joy to the people. The team was given a red carpet treatment and they went around the capital on a lorry to show the so called 12th player, the Red Army, their treasured trophy. According to most accurate estimates, more than 8,000 people took part in the demonstration in Male' and more than 3000 demonstrated in Addu Atoll at the same time. According to MDP officials, across the country thousands more protested in their own way to show solidarity for this exercise to uphold our constitution.
